Episode 13 – Purdey prepares for her first big journey

This week is all about getting Purdey ready for her voyage to the UK. As you can see, the focus is on fitting the doors, buttoning up loose ends, and preparing her for the journey. There’s still a lot to do, but we’re making steady progress.

Fitting the Front Doors

The front doors are now on! While the door tops are yet to be fitted, it’s starting to look more like a proper Land Rover. We’re using series doors on Purdey, chosen for their sliding windows. Why? Because sliding windows made of polycarbonate mean we can skip the rally-mandated window nets. Practicality meets classic design!

It’s a bit of a puzzle, though. With a mix of parts, adapting brackets and strikers ensure that everything aligns properly. A bit of trial and error, but we’re getting there.

Given the stormy weather forecast, the team has been busy sealing up Purdey interior and covering the exposed wiring. With no front wings or full window glass yet, they had to get creative. Pallet wrap: It’s temporary but effective!

Also, to keep the rain out, the team picked up a sheet of polycarbonate and cut a new rear window. After cleaning and prepping the glazing bars, the new window was carefully fitted. It’s watertight and rattle-free – a win!

Final Preparations

As the week drew to a close, we loaded Purdey onto the trailer. Strapping her down securely, we double-checked everything, from tire pressures to the bonnet straps. Chris’s transport experience came in handy here, ensuring she’s road-ready.

Onward to the UK!

It’s always nerve-wracking to send one of our cars off on such a big journey, but Purdey is ready for her roll cage fitting at Safety Devices. This is a crucial step for her rally transformation, and we’re excited to see how it progresses.
