Episode 23 – The Moment We’ve Been Waiting For: Purdey Runs!

This week, the focus was clear: get Purdey running. After weeks of waiting for deliveries, solving wiring issues, and fitting crucial components, the time had finally come to turn the key. But before that, there were still a few things to tackle.

With the rock sliders repainted and fitted (after some creative problem-solving to work around the roll cage mounts), a new earth lead installed, and the seat box reinforcements positioned, the final pieces were falling into place. Logistics had tested our patience yet again, but delivery day finally arrived—bringing the radiator from eurospare, an essential cooling pipe, and new relays.

With the radiator and intercooler installed, all the air, oil, and coolant pipes were connected, making it finally possible to attempt a start.

And then, it happened!!

 Purdey came to life.

Hearing that engine run for the first time was nothing short of emotional. The countless hours in the workshop, the doubts, the delays—it all led to this incredible moment. The team actually built a car.

Of course, as always, there are a few hiccups. The starter motor decided to give up just after the first ignition, and we’re still facing an issue with getting into gear. But these are just teething problems, and now that Purdey runs, the final push to rally readiness begins.

With less than 40 days until the Santana Trophy, the team is moving full speed ahead. Seats are fitted, the cockpit layout is being finalized, and the final touches are being planned. There’s still a lot to do, but we’re in the race.

Next week: solving the final mechanical challenges, cockpit adjustments, and gearing up for the real test.
